Prospective PhD Students

The SHIRE Lab welcomes applications from prospective PhD students interested in social cognition, stereotyping and person perception, intersectional and multiple categorization, face impressions, natural language processing methods, and social biases in AI.

Dr. Nicolas will be considering new PhD students in the current admissions cycle (Fall 2027 start). Graduate students join the lab through the Social Psychology PhD program in the Department of Psychology at Rutgers University, New Brunswick. Applications are submitted through Rutgers graduate admissions and are typically due December 1 for admission the following fall; see the program page for current deadlines and requirements.

Postdoctoral Researchers

Openings for postdoctoral positions are posted when funding is available. If you are interested in working with the lab, you are welcome to email gandalf.nicolas@rutgers.edu with your CV and a short statement of research interests.

Rutgers Undergraduates

The SHIRE Lab is looking for motivated Rutgers undergraduate students to join our research team! If you are interested in working with us, please complete our Undergraduate Application Form.

Key Information:

• Timeline: While we accept applications year-round, we primarily bring on new RAs for Fall semester start dates.
• Review Period: Applications for the Fall are reviewed in July and early August.
• Notifications: We aim to share all decisions by August 20th.
